The Behavioral Health and Wellness Center (BHWC) provides comprehensive mental health services to individuals who have mental health concerns, behavior problems, emotional distress, and co-occurring disorders. It is a NYS OMH licensed outpatient Clinic. Clients will be screened, evaluated and treated based on their individual needs. Services provided at the BHWC include psychiatric evaluation/assessments and medication management, group therapy for adults and children over five years of age, individual therapy for adults and children over five years of age, couples counseling, family therapy, psycho educational sessions, and support groups.
The BHWC maintains strong linkages with all community-based services including but not limited to DSS, Social Security Administration, substance abuse services, transportation systems, vocational training programs, community-based providers, and NRCIL.
The BHWC staff includes a New York State licensed psychiatrist, a New York State licensed Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, LCSW-Rs, LMSWs, LMHCs, RNs and LPN’s.
The philosophical approach to care is a client-centered, strength-based, psychotherapeutic model which includes education and support services which empower individuals to achieve their highest level of functioning.
Evidence-based interventions will be utilized based on the identified needs of those seeking help, including cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma informed care, dialectical behavior skills, psychodynamic therapy, and/or a variety of other approaches which will facilitate positive change and wellness.
Individuals and families are screened and evaluated at our Clinic in Lowville or services can be accessed at satellite locations in the Beaver River Health Center the South Lewis Health Center or at Transitional Living Services, 482 Black river Parkway in Watertown. Please send referral form to Watertown satellite if you are a resident of Jefferson County. Further access is available for children to be seen in any Lewis County school district. Upon determination of the appropriateness of admission to the BHWC, further services will be scheduled based on the assessed needs of the individual/family.
Clients may receive psychological and/or psychiatric evaluation and/or testing to specify diagnoses and to determine the level of need, if any, for psychopharmacological interventions. Individuals may be seen individually, as a couple or family, and in groups.
The BHWC accepts Medicaid, Medicare, Tricare, Fidelis, BC/BS, and other private insurances. Crisis Line Services are available 24 hours a day by calling 315-376-5450 M-F 8-4:30pm and 315-405-0696 for evening hours and weekends.
